Τhe last two decades there is an effort to move traditional CAx application to the cloud so to facilitate the transition of industrial sectors towards the Industry 4.0 model. Having a focus on the main scientific-technological advances that have been developed in recent years in traditional sectors with the aim of facilitating the transition to the new industry standard 4.0, our research interest is on:

  • How SMEs in traditional manufacturing sectors with limited human or financial resources and lack of personnel with technical skills can benefit from cloud computing technological innovations.
  • The main three computer aided design modules (CAD modules) that exploit the infrastructure of cloud computing systems with respect to the Industry 4.0 technological requirements: 3D model visualization, collaborative design, design review.
  • Indicative cloud-based design applications from different disciplines and design-oriented tasks that benefit from cloud computing technology.
  • How multi-core GPUs and parallel computing can enhance the software infrastructure of Industry 4.0 technologies that are employed by SMEs in traditional sectors.
