this is based on googlebar 0.9.15.14 (link)
In order to install googlebar on a 3.5+ firefox dist then follow these steps:
- download the original xpi: https://addons.mozilla.org/en-US/firefox/addon/33
- renane .xpi to .zip or open with an archive extractor
- open install.rdf with a text editor
- locate: em:maxVersion=”3.0.*”
- change to em:maxVersion=”X.X.*” [for instance: em:maxVersion=”3.5.*]
- pack everything back into the an xpi file
- install as normal.
Update:: For firefox 3.6 use googlebar 0.9.20.03
.
After a bit of tinkering, I have made a working version for Firefox 3.6 and posted it here http://www.darsys.net/2010/01/firefox-36-and-googlebar-091514.html — free download (Despite claims of this version, you will find it does NOT work with 3.6)
This doesn’t work with 3.6 only 3.5
Yesssssssssssssssss!
thank you very much ..!
why the team dont do this ..?
note theme .. ;) it’s very easy .. :D
thanks you so much… so much better than any other googlebar! Hope your version replaces the oldish extension soon on the Mozilla site…
To assist newbies (as it wasn’t perfectly obvious to me), ‘Step 7: Install update as usual’ can be done like this:
Open an explorer window with the XPI file in, then simply drag the file onto a Firefox window and drop it.
Another set of thanks from me… I’m only updating to 3.5 in Nov09 since I discovered your post. I’d held back with 3.0 solely because of my love of Googlebar!
Happy tinkering…
As far as I know, mozdev team abandoned googlebar while google initiated their own project called “google toolbar”.
My contribution is minor and is just a quick hack to make installation possible on newer versions of FF. I believe there might be plenty of bugs and incompatibilities … but how cares!! googlebar looks much better to me.
