Many people get this annoying message when they try to download Nokia maps on their memory card:
“Connection to the storage medium has been interrupted. Attach your storage medium and retry.”

Nokia map loader

Here is a workaround I discovered.

To start with, connect your mobile and select the Mass Storage option, or remove your memory card and attach it to your computer. You basically have to mount the card as a drive.

1. Open a Windows File manager and go to the following directory: $System_rootDocuments and Settings$usernameLocal SettingsTemp

On my winXP was: C:Documents and SettingsmodestosLocal SettingsTemp

2. Run Nokia Map Loader

3. Select the maps that you want and start downloading.

4. go back to the file manager and locate a folder named “download_temp”.
It only appears when downloading and if the installation fails then Nokia Map Loader deletes it.

5. So, before downloading finishes make the “download_temp” folder read-only.

6.Once Maploader finishes downloading the maps you selected, it will hang without deleting the maps…

7.Copy the zip files somewhere safe.

8. Open the zip files and extract the 01,02 … folders to your memory card under the folder Private20001f63diskcache. As of firmware version 20.0.X you must copy content in the yourmemcard/cities folder

Overwrite all contents.

9. Run Nokia Maps

10. Do not forget to enable read/write permissions to the download_temp folder. Otherwise Map Loader will fail to run.

that’s it.
